Katrina Smith heads up NEWSChannel’s News You Can Use and also produces NEWSChannel 2 at Noon. She keeps you in the know on the top consumer stories affecting your daily life, whether they’re happening nationally, statewide, or right here in Central New York.

Here’s what you can look for in the News You Can Use report: Things like up-to-the-minute recalls, the information you’ll look for when filing your taxes each year, tax filing extensions, new loopholes, how gas prices or travel forecasts are fluctuating and what you can do to keep your bottom line under control in a changing economy. You’ll also find the stories that keep the local public interest close at heart. Stories that generate conversation, commerce, and get people talking in a positive dialogue.

Spending a good portion of her life right here in the Utica-Rome area, Katrina graduated from Utica College with a BA in Journalism and a concentration in International Studies in 2006.

However, she is proud of her colorful background in television, print and publishing. She worked in London, U.K., as a copy editor for a restaurant guide publishing company before returning to the region.

She also reported politics for The Legislative Gazette, a weekly publication in Albany, and worked as an assignment editor at WSTM NBC3 in Syracuse for four years.

When not at work, Katrina enjoys reading to her three children, hiking, snowboarding, and checking out local farmer’s markets for the latest locally grown products, which seem to be popping up more and more of late.

If you have a story you think needs to be addressed, whether it’s consumer-based, economy-related, or just plain fun, you can contact Katrina at ksmith@wktv.com
