FYI: Google Reverse Phone Number Search

FYI with Bill Worden

Laurie Benedict

The search engine Google has implemented a new feature enabling you to simply type a phone number into the search bar, hit enter, and get the person's name and address.

If you then hit "map" or mapquest, you'll get a map with directions to that person's home.

Everyone should be aware of this! It is, in fact, a nationwide reverse telephone book.

If your number is not in the book, you have no concern here. It won't show up. Apparently they're just accessing national databases and phone books.

True, anyone could do that now, but if you're from out of the area and call information, you'll only get a number, not directions to an address.

If a child gives out his or her phone number, someone can now look it up to find out exactly where you live. The safety issues here are obvious and alarming.

Note: if you want to block Google from divulging your private information, simply click on your phone number, then click on the removal form. Removal takes 48 hours.

Remember, this isn't just a case of your number in the local phone book, it's now "out there" with your address and a map to your house on the world wide web!
