Boilermaker course record holder wins Boston Marathon

BOSTON (WKTV) - Boilermaker course record holder and 2010 champion, Lelisa Desisa, has won the Boston Marathon.

Desisa was in Utica in 2010 for the Boilermaker 15K, but did not return to defend his title since.

Desisa ran the course through Utica in 42 minutes, 46 seconds, which is the current course record, beating the previous one by eight seconds.

It was the Ethiopian runners' second race at the 26.2-mile distance. Desisa outsprinted two other East Africans down Boston's Boylston Street to win in 2 hours, 10 minutes, 23 seconds.

American Jason Hartmann finished fourth for the second straight year.

Rita Jeptoo won the women's race earlier Monday. It was her second victory in Boston, and her first win in a major race since taking two years off to have a baby.
