New bib transfer policy announced for Boilermaker Road Race

By LEXIE O'CONNOR

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Boilermaker Road Race held their first full committee meeting Thursday, announcing a new transfer policy.

Race organizers say this year they closed the Boilermaker's registration after 65 days, compared to 100 days last year and that is with adding 1,000 additional spots this year.

With the transfer policy if someone that is signed up can no longer run the 15 K, they'll be able to pass their number on to someone who would like to run.

With 114 days until the race, race directors say they're going to wait until closer to July to activate the policy.

"Because no one knows that they're going to plan on breaking their leg or getting pregnant, whatever, so we're pretty excited about it because it's going to open up some slots for some people that obviously were disappointed they didn't get into this year's race," says the Boilermaker's Executive Director Tim Reed.

Thursday's meeting also served as a reunion for committee members, many who haven't seen each other since last July and that have been with the race since it began.

First time runners still have a chance to be chosen for WKTV's Go the Distance Team. You can fill out an application by clicking on the "Go the Distance Application" on the right side of WKTV's homepage. All entrees must be in by April 1st.
