UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Boilermaker Road Race could see repeat champions this year. Both the men's and women's winners from 2009 are set to defend their titles on July 11th.
Boilermaker Elite Runners Coordinator Dick Mattia confirmed on Monday that men's champ Ridouanne Harroufi from Morocco and women's winner Alice Timbilili from Kenya are set to return to the best 15K in the country. It will be the first time a returning men's winner will defend his title since John Korir successfully defended his in 2004. The last time a women's winner came back to defend her title was 2008. Lidia Simon of Romania won back to back titles in 2007 and 2008.
Mattia continues to finalize this years elite runners list. Once the Peachtree Road Race is run in Atlanta on July 4th, he will have an even better idea of who will be coming this year.
