UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) -  After weeks of speculation, the National Distance Running Hall of Fame has made it offical, there will not be a hall of fame ceremony this July. Executive Director Tim Reed sites tough economic times as the main reason.

The Hall has cancelled ceremonies twice before, in 2004 and 2007, but never for financial reasons. Depsite the cancellation, some hall of famers are still planning on coming back for Boilermaker weekend. "Bill Rodgers is going to be back here, Katherine (Switzer) will be back here. I'm assuming that a number will come back" Reed said. He also said that he holds hall of fame candidates in such high esteem that if they can't do it (the ceremonies) right, they won't do it at all "this" year.

If there is a silver lining to this unfortunate situation, its that a new dialogue has come to the forefront. "What has happened,  is that the induction ceremony has caused a conversation to take place within our advisory board, what should the hall be and how should the hall be supported." Reed said.
