Overgrown weeds and grass create problems for beautification of Boilermaker route

By By JOLEEN FERRIS

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Boilermaker route beautification hit a minor bump in the road Wednesday morning - less than a mile into the 9+ mile route, there are overgrown weeds and grass.

The person responsible for maintaining the property around the old G.E. building on Bleecker near Culver was upset by repeated requests from the city codes department to cut the grass, citing old car parts piled under a metal awning at the business across the street.

"We should enforce the law, are you going to enforce the law with everybody else throughout the City of Utica? Why is he not being particularly enforced to do his job?" asked Howard Postal, surrounded by grass that towered over his head.

City officials visited both Nimey's Automotive at Bleecker and Culver and Postal. Mayoral assistant Angelo Roefaro says no citations were necessary; both agreed to spruce things up before Sunday.

"That's gonna be cut down tomorrow, I'll have that all cut down in here so it looks beautiful and nice for the Boilermaker," says Postal of the overgrown grass and weeds.
