2,500 take part in 5K training run

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Thousands took part in the Boilermaker 5K Road Race Sunday morning, just minutes before thousands more followed in the 15K Road Race. Officials started the race for people who wanted to start preparing for the longer race.

Start time was at 7:30 Sunday morning.

Runners in the 5K event get to run the last 5 kilometers of the Boilermaker course and end at the F.X. Matt Brewing Company where the post race party begins.

Syracuse University Football Coach Doug Marrone was one of the "Celebrity Runners" in this year's 5K race.

Marrone joined a record number of 5K runners, 2,362 as of last Monday. The big 15k race will also have more runners than ever before, with 13,089 expected.
