UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - While organizers of the Boilermaker Road Race will be hosting more than 40,000 people this Sunday, they spent much of Tuesday taking a little time to relax beforehand with some time on the links.

The 15th annual Boilermaker Golf Classic took place Tuesday at Valley View Golf Course in Utica and with the warm weather, they hit up all 18 holes under some beautiful sunshine.

The Golf Classic is an event for the race sponsors that has become so popular, there are now two rounds of golf being played, with roughly 100 golfers in the first group and 120 in the second.

"The Boilermaker wouldn't be what we are without our sponsors and volunteers," said Golf Classic Coordinator Maria Alberico. "We have a group of volunteers here who dedicate their time, morning and afternoon, giving folks beverages and we have some folks here watching for the hole in one on 18. Just a simple way to say thank you."

The second round of golf started at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Boilermaker course goes right through Valley View, and while organizers teed off along the course, they saw many runners passing through, likely training for Sunday's big race.
