Boilermaker shadow race in Afghanistan gets specially-designed shirts

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Boilermaker officials unveiled some items Friday morning that will soon be on their way to Afghanistan.

You see, Utica, is not the only city counting down to Boilermaker Sunday 2012. A "shadow race" will be held on the same day in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

There are currently members of the 108th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army National Guard based at the Parkway Armory in Utica, stationed in Afghanistan.

The 150 runners in Afghanistan will all be wearing specially-designed Boilermaker camoflauge tee-shirts and another 150 of these shirts will be available for purchase at the Boilermaker Expo.

They are $25 each, but again there will only be 150 shirts available.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Central New York Center for veterans in Utica, whose Executive Director, Vincent Scalise is among those currently serving in Afghanistan.
