Kids sign up at Expo for Boilermaker Youth Run

BOILERMAKER 2013 (WKTV) - The Boilermaker Youth Run gets kids started early, with the same Boilermaker spirit and hype, but with shorter distances.

Kids up to age 12 run distances up to a mile and on Friday, their parents brought them down to Mohawk Valley Community College in order to sign up for Saturday's youth run.

Youth Run officials say that, much in the same way the 5k works as a feeder for the 15k race, the Youth Run works as a feeder for the bigger races.

"I'm at the finish line for both races and I see some kids finish the one mile on Saturday and then Sunday morning I'll see the same kids crossing the mile for the 5k," said Youth Run Director Dennis Brenon. "So it's exciting. It's exciting to see them take the next step."

Sign-ups for the kids run are on a first come, first serve basis with a cap of 1,800 people.

NEWSChannel 2 will have a special broadcast of the Youth Run Saturday, July 13 at 7 p.m.
