Salvation Army recognizes man for his commitment to his community

By EVAN WHITE

HERKIMER - Robert Brenchley is involved with Catholic Charities, a Youth Bureau and is a former firefighter. Today, the Salvation Army announced plans to honor him at its annual dinner.

Brenchley says giving back has always been a way of life for him. Salvation Army officials say he is someone who has a large commitment to the community and is well deserving of the honor.

Captain James Griffith says people like Brenchley who receive the "Others Award" generally do a lot of behind the scenes work and get very little credit for such work.

Brenchley who serves as Regional Director for the Adirondack Bank was joined by a handful of supporters today. While he has received other civic duty awards in the past, this one is special.

"It's a great honor for me," said Brenchley. "When I think of the past recipients that have been honored ... and to be thought of in the same light with them it means a great deal."

Brenchley says he's accepting the award on behalf of all the organizations he has been a part of throughout his life.

We asked if Brenchley plans to expand his civic involvement in the near future and he said he was open to helping others in the community should the occasion arise.
