City of Utica teams up with Head Start to host cultural fair

By GRANT DeBRUIN

UTICA - The city of Utica joined forces with Head Start programs in Utica to create a cultural experience right here at home.

More than 30 cultures were represented at a cultural fair on Friday. Kids got to experience everything from music and food to languages of far away lands. Organizers say it is important to introduce kids to different customs at an early age.

"I think it is really important for different people to not only work together but to play together and to worship each other and to really get to know one another in more than a superficial way, says MVCAA Deputy Director Rick Weltz.

This was the first of what head start officials hope will be an annual event.
