ILION, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Erie Canal may not get as much use as it once did, but this year, officials and businesses at one of it's favorite summertime stops are expecting a strong season.

Ilion Mayor Mark Cushman and State Canal Corporation Director Carmella Mantello joined others today ushering in the start of another season on the Marina.

Cushman says the Marina infuses $100,000 dollars into the local economy.

Last year, he says wasn't an especially strong one, but with numerous events and the fact many are staying closer to home for vacationing, he's hopeful that can spark Ilion's economy.

According to Cushman, the RV lot which sits near the water is booked. Cushman said there are just three spots left for the rest of the season.

Dockside Cafe' co-owner Fred Randall relies on good weather and plenty of traffic by land and water. He and his daughter are new to the Dockside, having leased the restaurant for the first time according to Cushman, this season.

With a little good weather, Randall says he expects a strong season and didn't seem deterred by the economic downturn.
