UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Utica Parks System is getting some special recognition, national recognition that is!

Tuesday at Proctor Park in Utica...the Central New York Conservancy recognized the park system's inclusion on the State and National Registers of Historic places.

In addition to Proctor Park, the designation was bestowed on Roscoe Conkling Park and the Memorial Parkway.

Those with the conservancy say the parks have a rich history dating back to the Proctor family, "it was a vision of theirs to create green spaces for the residents of the area in a time when in Utica's history the city was very congested. And so they donated all this land and gave it to the city," says CNY Conservancy President Bill Locke

Those with the CNY Conservancy add it took two years of work for the parks to be added to the state and national registries.
