Hundreds come out to support Down syndrome awareness in annual Buddy WalkUTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The 14th annual Buddy Walk was held Sunday at Hanna Park in honor of National Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October. Hundreds of people came out to participate in the one-mile walk and raise awareness for Down Syndrome. Families and teams enjoyed a morning of face painting, balloons, door prizes, music, refreshments all at Hanna Park where the one-mile walk started and finished. The goal of Sunday's walk was to promote acceptance, awareness and inclusion of all people with Down syndrome. 5,000 babies are born each year with one extra chromosome, causing the syndrome. The event was hosted by the Mohawk Valley Down Syndrome Support and Awareness Group, formed by Upstate Cerebral Palsy in order to offer a support network for families affected by the syndrome. |
