DEERFIELD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Local volunteer firefighters held their annual legislative breakfast Saturday morning at the Deerfield Fire Department on Firehouse Road.

Members of the Oneida County Volunteer Firefighter's Association and Chiefs Association met with area politicians to discuss important topics for 2010.

Among those participating were Congressman Michael Arcuri, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente as well as numerous state and local officials.

On the agenda was Amanda's Law which is set to take effect on February 22 which establishes new requirements for the installation of carbon monoxide detectors in certain homes.

Also, the concerns over the potential consolidation of local governments.

New York State Firemen's Association First Vice President said, "when you're dealing with firefighters, we don't get paid. So when the siren goes in the next two, three, five miles down the road in an area that I don't live in, why would I want to get up to protect them unless I'm called for. It's not that we're getting a paycheck, you can't tell people who volunteer."

This was the 6th annual legislative breakfast.
