Leaf-peepers flock to Old Forge for fall foliage

Dave Dellecese

OLD FORGE - It's prime time for leaf-peepers, and if you're one of them this weekend may be the best time to get out and see all of the fall foliage.

This weekend is slated to be peak season for fall foliage. Leaf peepers, as they're called, come from near and far to get a glimpse of the gorgeous colors. And what better place to see it, than on McCauley Mountain?

On the mountainsides it's estimated that the leaves are 65-75% changed, just about on schedule for typical fall foliage.

But you may notice that the colors aren't quite as vibrant this year. You can blame that on lack of rain.

Still, visitors agree that the chair-lift ride atop McCauley Mountain is worth the view at the top.

"It's very nice," said Ken Roberts of Paris Hill. "You can see for miles and miles."

"Once in a while we come up in the summer, but usually it's about this time of year, because we're interested in seeing the colors and things like that," said Roger Sykes of Oneida.
