Corporal Michael Mayne laid to rest

BURLINGTON FLATS, N.Y.(WKTV) -  Corporal Michael Mayne was laid to rest Saturday in a somber ceremony. His closest friends and family gathered at the graveside for his burial , and to offer a final goodbye.

The 21-year old soldier from Burlington Flats was killed in Iraq during combat operations in February. In March, calling hours and an emotional funeral were held to remember him at the Edmeston Central School District, where roughly 1,000 people were in attendance. 

Beyond a soldier, friends say Mayne was a dedicated Eagle Scout, a tireless worker, and a friendly face. They said Saturday's service  was about remembering his sacrifice.

In order to honor Mayne, mourners came with flowers and his family was presented with a flag in his memory.
