Mural display honors local fallen heroesUTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The memories of fallen heroes will live on forever at the Oneida County Office Building, due in part to a memorial portrait mural dedicated Wednesday by the Central New York Utica Chapter 490 Military Order of the Purple Heart. The ceremony was held in the Oneida County Legislative Chambers, where eight local families of those killed in Iraq and Afghanistan were presented with a special plaque designed just for them, so that they can have a piece of the memorial mural. "On Memorial Day, May 25th, we'll pause to recall all those who died in defense of our safety and freedom," said Commander Joseph T. Fraccola. "In Afghanistan and Iraq, Americans are still giving their lives today. It is every day that we should pause to reflect on the honor, duty, and sacrifices of our fallen heroes." The memorial portrait mural will be displayed permanently in the lobby of the Oneida County Office Building. Most Popular |
