Body of Marine to return Thursday morning; Outpouring of support for family of fallen MarineONEIDA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The family of Lance Corporal Jeremy Lasher is trying to come to grips with the loss of their son - a brother, husband, and a father. Lasher's remains will return to the area Thursday at 10 a.m. at Griffiss International Airport, from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. Lance Corporal Lasher died during combat in Afghanistan last week. Lasher was killed along side Cpl. Nicholas G. Xiarhos, 21, of Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts. They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Lasher is the fourth local servicemen to be killed in action this year alone, and the tenth serviceman from the Mohawk Valley to be killed in action since 2003. At a dignified transfer ceremony at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware Saturday afternoon, a Marine Corps carry team loaded a transfer case containing the remains of Lance Corporal Lasher into a transfer vehicle. Funeral arrangements have not been finalized, but will be handled by the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home on Main Street in Oneida. Lasher leaves behind his wife, Andrea, and a young son, Caden. Andrea and Jeremy married in 2006, just before Lasher left for duty. As his family is coming to grips with the tragic news, the Oneida community is paying respects and offering support.
