CLARK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - A group of Fort Drum soldiers is using their leave time to sharpen their emergency medical skills - and the Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps (COCVAC) is helping them do that.

They're condensing a six-month class into a ten-day crash course, but the head of the Ambulance Corps says they're going to cover all the bases - just very quickly.

"Actually, they're getting the same curriculum everyone else would get, it's just condensed into 12 hour days," said Mark Dziura of the COCVAC, "So, they got a phone book that thick, that's the EMT book they're going to be running through over the next 10 days."

The soldiers deploy to Iraq in October.
