NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. – Thanks to the generous support of the local community, more than $4,000 was raised through the 23nd Annual Cross Country Ski Challenge, held February 3, 2013 in Boonville. More than 35 participants hit the trails, and brought in donations and pledges to support Sitrin’s Adaptive Ski Program.

Participants included Alli Morgan of Whitesboro and Shawn Cheshire of Syracuse, who are both training for the biathlon.

“Funds raised through this event allow us to provide individuals of varying abilities the opportunity to participate in the sport recreationally or on a competitive level,” said Dr. James V. Wallace, director of physical therapy at Sitrin and adaptive biathlon coach. “It was a great day, with an incredible turnout!"

Proceeds will help purchase equipment for the athletes, including sit-ski frames, skis, and mountain boards, which are specifically adapted for each person’s abilities.

Sitrin would like to extend a special thanks to John Tyo of Syracuse Prosthetics Center, the Boonville Big M, Boonville Search and Rescue, Black River Environmental Improvement Association (BREIA), the Boonville Herald, WXUR 92.7 FM the Drive, and WKTV.
