Faxton St. Lukes holds fundraiser for employee

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Faxton St. Luke's community gathered Saturday to raise money for a member of its own family.

The Director of Nursing and Perioperative Services, Beth Boshart, recently suffered a heart attack. A benefit was held for her Saturday at the hospital.

When she woke up after her heart attack, she was fitted with what is called an LVAT, a left ventricular assist device. There are only 8,000 in the country.

It is basically doing what her ventricles are no longer capable of pumping blood throughout her body.

Boshart said, "I am very overwhelmed. I am very blessed. I work for a wonderful organization. I just have many thanks to everybody for everything they have done for me because I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the professionals, if it wasn't for my friends or for Faxton St. Luke's."

Boshart is on the heart transplant list, waiting for a match. She asks everyone to keep organ donation on their minds.
