First Niagara Bank and Sitrin Foundation team up to help servicemembers

By ANNA MEILER

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Sitrin Foundation received an extra boost on Tuesday with a check presented to them by First Niagara Bank.

The check was presented by First Niagara Market Executive David Kavney at a ceremony at the Yahnundasis Golf Club Tuesday morning. The money is in support of the first "Tournament of Valor," a golf tournament that will bring veterans, active-duty servicemembers and the community together on the links.

All of the proceeds from the tournament will benefit wounded warriors and their families through the Sitrin Foundation.

Kavney said that the rehabilitation it's not only an important service to the community, but the method of raising funds through a golf tournament is a fun way to give back.

"I think its crucial," Kavney said of the rehabilitation services. "I have friends and co-workers that served in the military. To help with that transition back to normalized life is very important. They spend an awful long time protecting our freedom and I think trying to ensure a smooth transition to civilian life...it's incumbent upon us to make sure we do that."

The goal is to raise $30,000 and the tournament will be held on Monday, September 9 at the Yahnundasis.
