UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A local group is reaching out to area families to make sure they stay healthy this Autumn.

The Urban Oasis Initiative will be hosting a free workshop in Utica on Saturday, October 6 where participating families will cook a nutritious lunch with ingredients donated by local farmers and businesses, go on an urban nature walk and learn the basics of Fall food preservation.

"We are talking about basics of canning, freezing, drying, and all this stuff is kid-friendly and we make it a fun group experience," said Lauren Eadline of the Urban Oasis Initiative.

The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kniffen Center-Family Place in Utica. It is free and all families are welcome, but pre-registration is required.
