Hip-hop artist from Utica receives two honors at Upper State Independent Awards

A hip-hop artist with local roots has recently walked away with two honors from the 6th Annual Upper State Independent Awards.

Held at the Palace Theater in Hamilton on October 13, the awards show acknowledges independent musicians from all genres and backgrounds, showing appreciation for work by independent musicians, poets, models, designers, comedians, photographers, choreographers, movie makers/DVD, on-line radio shows, and television shows just to name a few.

Geno Brown, a Utica native known as G Swiss to his fans, won the award for Best Hip Hop male as well as Best Mixtape for "the Talk of Central New York." On top of performing solo, G Swiss also performs with The Fame and Money Boyz.

Utica comedian Mike Bova was also awarded Best Comedian at the awards show.
