Indoor Heart Run & Walk takes place in Rome

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A few hundred local folks put on their running and walking shoes Saturday morning in Rome. The American Heart Association's 10th annual Rome Indoor Run and Walk took place at Rome Free Academy.

The event actually offers several walking courses to attract different types of walkers. All proceeds raised go toward research and new technology to help potential heart patients in the future.

Diane Butler, volunteer chairperson for the Rome Heart Run and Walk, said, "We have less people having open heart surgery and now getting stinting and angioplasty instead because of the tremendous gains that we have made through research and the dollars raised of the participants."

Rome's sister event Utica, America's Greatest Heart Run & Walk is set for Saturday, March 3.
