HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - A local woman was honored Tuesday with the Long-term Employee Distinction Award.

Janice Szuba, assistant director of activities for Valley Health Services in Herkimer, is one of just 16 people in the state to receive the distinction.

The Bell Choir, the group Szuba founded and directs, was on hand as Szuba received the award, to honor their leader with a serenade of the their favorite songs.

We caught up with Szuba and she said,

"I feel honored and blessed to be in a place where such things are recognized," Szuba said on Tuesday. "The residents have always been special to me and they feel like my own family, so it's a very good day for me."

The group travels to nursing homes all over the region to share their music with the community.
