Oneida County Historical Society reopens with new roof
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Oneida County Historical Society held its grand reopening under a new roof Sunday. The new roof was installed after the building's ceiling collapsed last September.
The roof collapse temporarily knocked some of their programs out of commission. It took five months for the Society to make their way through clean-up, insurance, Hazmat and bidding, but the repairs began in February and were completed last month. Besides a new roof, the Historical Society now has some new exhibits, and didn't have to replace too many despite the major damage. Brian Howard, the Oneida County Historical Society's Executive Director said, "If the ceiling was going to come down, it came down right in the middle of our room and our exhibits were located in the wings of the room, so there was relatively little damage to the actual exhibits themselves, we lost a couple cases, and a few artifacts, but it could have been much, much worse." The Oneida County Historical Society is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. |
