Pies collected from community to benefit West Side Soup Kitchen

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A local non-profit is set for its Thanksgiving desserts, thanks to another local organization and the generosity of the community.

The Knights of St. John held a pie drive recently, asking the community to bake or purchase pies and bring them to their headquarters at the corner of Varick and Court Streets in Utica. It's the fourth year for the pie drive, and its success means many of those having their Thanksgiving meal at Mother Marianne's West Side Soup Kitchen in Utica will get to satisfy their sweet tooth as well.

The pies were collected at the Knights of St. John on Wednesday night for transport to the soup kitchen.

"Some people have family obligations," said Jason Fazio of the Knights of St. John. "Personally, I wont be in the area tomorrow, so this is a small way I can give back. We all have different talents. Some people would rather be out serving other people. Something like this might be better for them. Every little bit helps."
