Tappet Twirlers puts on annual car show in Lee

LEE, N.Y. (WKTV) - It is billed as Central New York's premier car show, and it took place Sunday in the Town of Lee.

"Rockin' in the Park goes back 29 years and is put on annually by the Tappet Twirlers Automobile Club of Rome. Since its establishment in 1954, the club's motto has been "safety, courtesy and allegiance."

At Sunday's car show, there was everything from antiques to hot rods.

The owners all have their own reasons for loving cars. Show chairman Peter Messina says, "My father was an airplane mechanic and I was practically born in his 1965 Mustang Fastpac on the way to the hospital. My whole family has always been into Mustangs. We've got Mustangs ourselves."

Messina adds that all proceeds from the car show will go to local charities, including the local food bank.
