United Way distributes dolls to agencies for abused and neglected children

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A local not-for-profit has come up with a unique way to usher in National Adoption Month.

Someone donated 150 dolls to the United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica and on Thursday, the United Way invited representatives from five local agencies that deal with kids to "adopt" the dolls.

They picked their favorites, signed the adoption papers and will go back to their agencies to distribute the dolls to children who can really use them.

"Our Casa program is going to be actually bringing these dolls to abused and neglected children who are actually being adopted this month by permanent loving families," said Brenda Episcopo, Executive Director of the United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica.

The Neighborhood Center and Catholic Charities are among the agencies adopting the dolls.
