United Way showing appreciation to community with "Day of Thanks"

A charitable organization is throughout the community Wednesday saying "thank you."

The United Way of the Valley and the Greater Utica area has volunteers on hand making phone calls of gratitude, while others are going to local businesses to show their appreciation in person.

It's all part of The United Way Day of Thanks.

It takes hundreds of volunteers to make the day happen, but it takes thousands of people from the community to make their good deeds a success.

"This is when we go back out into the workplaces that work so hard in the Fall to run campaigns and raise money for United Way," said Brenda Episcopo, Executive Director of the United Way of the Valley and the Greater Utica Area. "Now we go back to them for all that they've done."

Some of the programs that businesses and individuals helped out with this year included the school supply drive and the diaper drive, both of which organizers say were major successes.
