World-renowned fiddler plays for local students

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Critically acclaimed fiddler Amanda Shaw performed for students at General Herkimer School in Utica on Thursday morning.

Her performance was made possible by a grant that the YMCA received from The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties.

Amanda hopes to pass along the message of music as a way of being creative and setting goals in life.

"As someone that grew up playing music in New Orleans, someone who's been working at a young age, to be able to share my experiences is a great feeling for me too," Shaw said. "So both me and the kids are being able to share together and hopefully build for the future."

At the young age of 22, Shaw already has three critically acclaimed albums and has even had two feature acting roles in two Disney movies.

The concert on Thursday was part of series of music workshops held in conjunction with YMCA.
