Event Description

MARCY, NY: There is still time to join the Mohawk Valley Institute for Learning in Retirement (MVILR) at SUNYIT to get into some courses for the four- week winter term that begins on Monday, January 24.

MVILR is an educational organization for active older adults who enjoy sharing their knowledge in a classroom setting and continuing stimulating, meaningful educational and social activities. The program is about learning for the sheer joy of learning with no grades, exams or homework.

While some of the more than 30 courses offered for the Winter term are filled there are still many that are open.

Some of the courses still available are: Physics for the Lay Person, Folk Dancing, Famous Fighters (Cold War Spy Planes), First Aid and Disaster Services Overview, Journaling, Conversational Hebrew, People’s Law (featuring a different speaker from the legal profession each week), Star Legends, with Henry Bamberger, The King and Queen of Soul, with Michael “Doc” Woods, and off campus courses: Off to the Fort (Fort Stanwix) We Go, and Learn to Curl (Utica Curling Club).

MVILR members pay one annual membership fee and then take courses each semester, free, with no additional charge.

MVILR is offering a mid-year membership rate of $110 for new members interested in joining this life-long learning program on the SUNYIT Campus. All members will be able to take courses for the rest of the academic year including the eight week spring term that runs from March through May. In addition MVILR is offers non-members the opportunity to take courses, space available, for $50 per course.

There is still time to become a member and enroll in some of the new stimulating and enjoyable winter courses.

Classes are held on Monday through Friday during the day. Most are on the SUNYIT Campus. Instructors are volunteers from the community who often teach courses that have been their passions over a lifetime.

In addition to taking courses MVILR members enjoy socializing between classes and attending MVILR or SUNYIT events.

For more information, including how to receive a copy of the winter catalog, contact the MVILR office at 315 792-7192 or visit the website at www.sunyit.edu/mvilr. The catalog is available on line.
