Event Description

A group of people meet in a summer home—and we see they’re divided by competition—artistic, generational, and sexual. The characters are unhappy in their own ways: they all long for something they can’t have. No grand-standing or sudden revelations, just people like you and me living their lives. Chekhov labeled it a comedy but not in the conventional sense. Characters’ lives are tragic to them, but the audience can see the irony and ridiculous nature of the longings that make them unhappy.
