Event Description

The Rev. Thomas Burgess, Pastor of Hope Christian Fellowship and President of the Canastota Area Association of Churches, has announced details of the Annual CROP Hunger Walk to be held on Sunday, October 14, 2012.

Registration is at 1:00 p.m. at St. Agatha’s Roman Catholic Church, located at the corner of North Peterboro St. and Wilson Ave., followed by a march through the village beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Two local beneficiaries will receive 25% of all funds raised locally. They are: the Opportunity Shop, a food pantry and thrift store; and Loaves and Fishes Hospitality Center, a soup kitchen where anyone can receive a hot lunch and a box dinner during the last full week of each month. At the end of the march, walkers will enjoy refreshments provided by the Canastota Kids’ Day Corporation and view a display of various local mission outreaches entitled “Canastota Touches the World” upon their return to St. Agatha’s.

The public is encouraged to participate by collecting support from sponsors and walking themselves or by sponsoring at least one walker. Funds will be used to fight hunger at home and abroad, with 25% of donations going to the charities named above.

Anyone interested in walking is asked to call local coordinator Richard L. Rossi at 264-9154. Area churches that have not already received registration information packets should contact Pastor Sally Buyea of the United Church at 697-9222.

The Canastota Area Association of Churches is comprised of Believers’ Chapel of Canastota, Church of the Nazarene, Clockville Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, Hope Christian Fellowship, New Beginnings Community Church, Oneida Lake Congregational Church, Redeemer Lutheran Church, St. Agatha’s Roman Catholic Church, Trinity Episcopal Church, United Church of Canastota, and Whitelaw Presbyterian Church.
