Event Description

The New York State Midwinter Sacred Harp Singing will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013, from 10:00AM to 3:30PM at St. James Episcopal Church, 9 Williams Street, Clinton, NY. We will use the 1991 Sacred Harp. Copies will be available to borrow or purchase. There is no admission charge. A free-will offering will be collected to cover expenses.

A pot-luck lunch will be served at mid-day. Hot dishes can be reheated in the church kitchen.

The Sacred Harp is the most popular shaped-note tune book used today. Shaped-note singing began in colonial New England Singing Schools where young people were taught to sing unaccompanied and in harmony.

Sacred Harp singing is not a concert. It is a social activity and you will be invited to join the class. You are also welcome to attend and listen.
