Red Cross takes parts in Disaster Preparedness Drill

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The American Red cross of the Mohawk Valley took part in a state-wide drill today.

It's a way to prepare for a potential disaster and how to respond to certain unforseen circumstances. Locally the drill was held at Our Savior Lutheran Church on Genesee Street in Utica. Today's focus was on shelter capability and capacity.

Local Red Cross leaders say this type of drill is very appropriate in the wake of what's going on in Japan.

Mohawk Valley Chapter Disaster Services Co-Chair Carol Higgins says this is really what the Red Cross is all about, "we preach preparedness, but we also practice preparedness, so that's a really important point about the Red Cross is that we're ready when anything happens, no matter what."

The Red Cross is always looking for volunteers.
