UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - With Saturday's rainy conditions, graduates of Utica College and their families are sure glad the school holds its commencement inside the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

The commencement speaker for the school's 62nd commencement was an alumni. Gary Kunath, a 1979 Utica College graduate has since become a successful author and businessman.

Kunath founded the Summit Group, a business consulting company and was named Businessman of The Year in 2008.

His latest book called "Life, don't miss it, I almost did" recently sold out on

Kunath's message to graduates was basically what his latest book is about. He told the new grads that they have been given the tools to make a living, but what they really need to do is focus on building a life, not just a career. He said, "it's really just a story about my journey and how I started to understand what matters most in life and the lessons I learned that helped me understand that. So I came away with some things that were very important to me, because I now live everyday to the fullest. I get the most out of everyday, and you know why wouldn't they want to hear this."

This year the graduating class at Utica College had 855 students.

The valedictorian is local resident Erin Murphy, a biology major from West Winfield who plans to go to veterinary school at the University of Missouri.

Congratulations to all of Sunday's graduates.
