Lt. Gov. Duffy, Sen. Schumer address SUNYIT graduates
MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Hundreds of well-wishers celebrated the achievements of graduates at SUNYIT’s 38th annual spring commencement May 5 in the Wildcat Field House on the SUNYIT campus in Marcy.
The keynote address was delivered by New York Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy, a frequent visitor to SUNYIT and the area in recent months during his first year presiding over the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council; U.S. Senator Charles Schumer also spoke to graduates and guests.
In his remarks to graduates, SUNYIT President Wolf Yeigh told the Class of 2012 that they had seen the campus change in the past four years.
"Your first year, we broke ground for the Student Center, and now it's completed, along with the new Oriskany Residence Hall, and this fantastic field house. We've also added new academic programs since your arrival," Yeigh said. "SUNYIT continues to grow physically and in all aspects. Later this year we'll start work on the new academic and research facility. I want all of you to come back and help celebrate."
More than 400 candidates for undergraduate and graduate degrees were eligible to participate, and hundreds of family and friends were on hand for the ceremony. For those unable to attend, the event was streamed live online. The ceremony was followed by a reception in the Student Center.
