SUNY Oneonta graduates nearly 1,500

ONEONTA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A big day down in Otsego County Sunday as nearly 1,500 SUNY Oneonta students received their diplomas.

The school's 122nd commencement took place in two separate ceremonies. Depending on their majors, the students either graduated at 10:00 Sunday morning or at noon.

College President Nancy Kleniewski introduced all of Sunday's guest speakers including former NASA Director Malcolm Cohen, who received an honorary doctorate degree.

President Kleniewski focused her speech on three key points. SUNY Oneonta President Nancy Kleniewski said, "Striving for excellence, also being engaged in their community, and then thinking about environmental sustainability so those are three things we hope they will work on in their future."

The Mohawk Valley Fraziers provided the bagpipe music for Sunday's graduation.
