Latest operating room technology on display at Heart Expo
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - You can get up close and personal with the latest technology in the operating room at this year's Heart Expo at Utica College.
Oneida Healthcare has the Di Vinci System set up for you to try out at the Expo.
It's a $2 million investment for their facility and many people at the Expo were able to see the enhanced 3D vision it provides.
The technology is said to reduce patient recovery time and make incisions smaller.
"Some open surgeries can be on a large vertical incision and require opening the sternum up and a lot of pain and discomfort for the patient," said Mike Healy of Oneida Healthcare. "What we have are several small incisions that are just the diameters of these rods."
It will leave patients with just 4 to 5 incisions the size of a dime.
Oneida Healthcare is using the Da Vinci for colorectal surgery and thoracic surgeries, among others.
