Nominations still accepted for Grand Marshal of Utica's St. Patrick's Day Parade

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The annual St. Patrick's Day in the City of Utica will take place a week earlier this year since the holiday falls on a weekend for 2013.

Parade Director Judy Weeks says the reason for the move was in order to secure the bands and floats that come to town each year.

Last year, 112 units paraded down Genesee Street in Utica and the Great American Irish Festival, which organizes the parade, is looking to top that number this year.

"Months ago, the Syracuse parade decided to have theirs on the 9th and historically, we share a lot of the units and the bands, and we felt it was to both advantages to have it on the same day and that's why we're having it on the 9th," Weeks said.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. on Genesee Street in Utica.

The grand marshal of the parade will be selected early next week, but not announced until January 27. Organizers say that if you want to nominate someone, now is the time.
