Community Action to collect goods for food pantries after cancellation of postal service involvement

MOHAWK VALLEY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency is stepping up to collect canned goods and non-perishable goods to give to area food pantries in order to make up for the cancellation of the U.S. Postal Service food collection.

"I know we cannot make up for their loss altogether, but we hope to help the pantries get through a difficult time," said MVCAA Executive Director Amy Turner.

According to Turner, Community Action is asking its 300 employees to donate canned goods and non-perishable food and the agency also will accept donations form the public at the sites listed below starting Monday, November 29 and continuing through Wednesday, December 15.

The food will be distributed the following week.

Collection boxes will be placed at the following Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency offices:

*Main Office, 9882 River Road in Utica

*Rome Office, 1721 Black River Boulevard in Rome

*Herkimer Office, 401 East German Street in Herkimer.
