Holiday Mail for Heroes sending well-wishes to service members, veterans and families

By GARY LIBERATORE

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The American Red Cross is once again urging people to take part in their annual tradition of "Holiday Mail for Heroes."

It's an effort to collect holiday cards and send the included personalized well-wishes to American service members, veterans, and their families in the United States and around the world.

Members of the American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley went to local businesses and had area workers fill out some cards to send.

This is the fifth year of the program, and the Red Cross has already delivered more than $3 million.

"I hope that it's a little touch of home for them, to know that they're remembered," said Diane Fisher of the Red Cross.

The cards need to be postmarked by Friday, December 9, 2011.

Just address them to:
