Donations make holidays a little brighter for kids in Herkimer County and Utica

MOHAWK, N.Y. (WKTV) - Christmas will be a little brighter for school children in Ilion and Mohawk, thanks to the United Way and its supporters.

The organization dropped off wrapped toys to the Mohawk YMCA on Tuesday. From there, the toys will be given out at elementary schools in Ilion and Mohawk.

The toys were donated at a recent United Way Christmas Party, and wrapped by Santa himself.

"It will really help and make them happy to open gifts on Christmas morning," said YMCA Program Coordinator Amy Burke said. "Some kids don't really have that much."

The United Way also dropped off presents to the Johnson Park Center later in the afternoon. Those will be distributed to children in Utica schools.
