GE Elfun Society gets Baggs Square ready for the holidays

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - There was some elfin magic occurring at Utica's Baggs Square Thursday morning as members of the "GE Elfun Society" were getting the beloved holiday spot ready for the holidays by hanging lights, arranging a manger and putting out holiday decorations.

The "GE Elfun Society" is made up of General Electric retirees from the Utica area who are looking to stay active and spread smiles in their retirement.

"Our big occasion is when Santa flips the switch, we hope that all the lights go on, other than that, it's a lot of fun," said Elfun Society member Robert Loomis of the group's day of decorating.

The decorations are part of the Christmas on Main Street event, a city-wide celebration of Christmas, which happens this year on Saturday, November 19, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There will be free entertainment inside Union Station, with Santa Claus on site from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. that day.
