27th Annual Christmas on Main Street kicks off in Utica

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus were at Union Station in Utica to kick off Christmas on Main St., Saturday.

The holiday couple were taking pictures and present requests from children during the event's 27th year.

It was a free event, full of fun, food, wagon rides, a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, and capped off by fireworks to unofficially mark the beginning of the holiday season.

"Christmas on Main St. has been going on for so long, we have people who were children who are now bringing their children here to see the events," said Mark Santamaria, a volunteer director.

The night was also a way to celebrate the diversity of the holiday season, with dancers of different nationalities and their different types of music.
